Her Dream Road

Chronicling my Hong Kong study abroad - this is a travel/food blog when I don't sidetrack
Food Blog - Smashburgers at Newark Airport - first meal bought back in the states. I was CRAVING Dr. Pepper and the smashsauce was something I only had once before - in Newark Airport on my way TO Hong Kong almost half a year ago. Decided it was a good way to end my study abroad trip.

the first stop was in my mom’s village - Kai Ping. 10 hour bus ride…

Hong Kong skyline and construction.
The view from my stairwell every night.
Unfortunately that construction site is literally right outside my window XP

MidLevel Travelator - the longest travelator in the world. a combination of escalators and moving platforms… super steep. You haven’t traveled in Central and Soho district until you’ve been on this thing XD

The Chinese for Midlevel is 半山 which is why the symbol, to me at least, looks like it’s cutting the mountain half way… or whatever. just my guess.

It’s a giant wooly mammoth skeleton replica…in the middle of the IFC mall in Central, Hong Kong…

Hong Kong Marriage Registry

Surprisingly it’s located behind Shatin’s New Town Plaza…

Went to see a play today called “A Bowlful of Kindness” 有飯自然香 at Hong Kong City Hall Theatre
Basically it’s a skit sponsored by Panasonic about the history of Rice Cookers in Hong Kong in the 1960s and the concept of happiness around eating rice.
Way better than how I can summarize it! The skit had surtitles in English and my Cantonese was adequate enough to get all the puns related to rice ^_^
So glad I got to see at least one Cantonese play before I left Hong Kong~
Oh. and I got a free bag of rice out of it…

mini Food Blog: a very small cup of OJ at McDonald’s at Mui Wo, Lantau Island, Hong Kong.

For the American in me, it’s smaller than a white paper cup you get for water…

it’s not a regular small cup… The small cup is pictured. For some reason, they offer orange juice in such a small size…

This was our bathroom stop and western food stop… a friend of mine had food allergies and McDonald’s is one of the very few places she can go to in Asia where she can trust that they don’t have peanut or soy products… also. A/C. very important. waiting for the bus in the heat or at McDonald’s? McDonald’s.

Just came back from Yangshuo, China… taken after riding our bikes down both the Yulong River AND the Li River all day long…getting lost going to FuLi Town… and ended up hitching a ride on bamboo rafts so that we could make it back into the city before nightfall…barely made it.
