Hong Kong’s Cramped Apartments Shot Directly from Above

In cosmopolitan Hong Kong there are 1.3 million people who live below the poverty line in cramped apartments unfit for habitation. In an attempt to draw attention to the issue, human rights organization Society for Community Organization recently commissioned a series of photographs showing these interiors through a camera installed on the ceiling. The resulting images show people living in dirty and unsafe conditions crammed together like sardines.

Way worse than Manhattan.

Uh, is this an issue in Hong Kong?

Walked by this mural everyday in Mongkok, never noticed the inscription. Because Hong Kong cityscape changes day by day, as I was looking through my files, I’m wondering if this mural is still there.

EVERYONE, ABSOLUTELY EVERYONE NEEDS TO WATCH THIS.

EVERY.

FUCKING.

ONE.

God bless

Reblogging because 1. she’s talking about an area of Mongkok, Hong Kong that even I’ve seen easily slides into the seedier area if you walked around the wrong corner. 2. Because EVERYTHING she says is true.  It sucks that she felt so unsafe SO SCARED for JUST BEING A GIRL that she had to move. Noone DESERVES it.

The vlogger sounds like she’s about to cry.

Fashion in Hong Kong: In Hong Kong, I noticed an odd trend. It was totally fine for girls/ladies/women to wear short skirts/dresses/long shirts with hemlines barley past your butt as long as you wore tights or shorts under.

When I say “totally fine” I mean, college aged girls dressed like that in the winter and men look on appreciatively.

However, when my international friends wore anything with a lower neckline that exposed any amount of cleavage, they get judged my other women and LEERED at by men, who oggle with no shame. It’s a combination of the fact that they’re foreigners and their clothes - but again NOONE DESERVES IT.

I realize that I also prefer showing off my legs rather than my cleavage, but that’s my personal preference. Whether I’m showing off my legs or my chest, it DOES NOT give anybody the right to judge me and look at me as a piece of meat and think I deserve to feel uncomfortable and unsafe.

In Hong Kong, I saw how some men were looking at girls who dressed like that and I wanted to throw my jacket on those girls… it’s not right. It’s ok to look on and think “Oh, I think she needs a sweater.” and NOT “Why is she trying so hard to get guys to look at her? Is she trying to get raped?” or “Well, if she’s showing it, I’m free to look and judge and make catcalls.”

So watch this video, keep in mind the dress code in Hong Kong/China, and the fact that even the prettiest place in the world has ugly people.
